With a maturity period of 80 days, 'Perth Pride' is a mid-season dwarf tomato variety featuring rugose, regular leaf foliage. It produces abundant yields of perfectly round, smooth, purple-colored fruits, reminiscent of 'Cherokee Purple,' weighing between three to five ounces each. These tomatoes are juicy, richly flavored, tangy, and possess a refreshing tartness. It's advisable to reduce watering as the tomatoes ripen, as 'Perth Pride' has thin skin that may split.
Developed over a span of five years (2006-2011) by members of the "Dwarf Tomato Project," 'Perth Pride' emerged as a selection from the "Happy family" ('New Big Dwarf' and 'Paul Robeson'), which originated from a cross made by Patrina Nuske Small of Australia in 2006. During the Australian summer of 2007/08, 'Perth Pride' was chosen and named by Tessa Millesse, a resident of Perth, Western Australia. It was introduced in 2011, with each seed packet containing approximately 20 seeds.
